Waylon's Journey
“Waylon’s journey started when I was 19 weeks pregnant.
At 19 weeks, the ultrasound techs found that I had a short cervix, we opted for progesterone pills instead of the cerclage, since the high risk team told me it would cause more complications. We were feeling pretty confident that the suppositories were going to work, or at least give Waylon enough time to bake a little longer being born, well he was just very determined to make his grand entrance early.
At 26 weeks, I had been experiencing cramping that I thought was just Braxton hicks, but they kept getting closer together and causing back pain, so we called my OB, went to the ER, then all of a sudden, I’m in the back of an ambulance being transported to the high risk team. We stayed in the hospital close to two weeks, waiting for Waylon to be born, of course it didn’t take long before he was ready.
Waylon was born at 27 weeks, 3 days, weighing 2 lbs 7.5 oz. He was born on April Fools days, 2 minutes before midnight. We call him our little trickster. 😉
He stayed in the NICU for 70 long days.
He suffered a minor left side brain bleed, either before, during, or after birth, and has recently been diagnosed with localization-related epilepsy, and cerebral palsy, but that doesn’t stop him from crawling, climbing, and pulling to stand! No matter the diagnosis, he is so loved, and it doesn’t change how we look at him. He is so strong, determined, and courageous!
Waylon is now a THRIVING 1 year old who loves to prove just how strong he is. He’s making so much progress with the help of ST, OT, and PT. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for us and our baby Waylon! 🤍” NICU Mama, Abigail
