Rooted in Faith
"My sweet Dominic was born at 25 weeks. April 18th at 0138 in the morning on Good Friday! Although still in the NICU, he is constantly fight and making progress.
His journey started out rough. Immediately after birth he was intubated and spent a lot of time between ventilators. Being on the oscillator was one of the hardest times for my boy. He had to be continuously sedated with Precedex and fentanyl. He also had to be on TPN to help his weight journey. At one point he had to receive a medication that completely paralyzed his body and do a round of steroids to try to grow and mature his lungs. He also had an infection and pneumonia from being intubated.
Weeks later he moved to the Cpap and then to the nasal cannula. He was born 1lb 9oz . I am proud to say that he is now 5lbs 6oz! We are working hard to wean him off the oxygen so that we can try to bottle feed. Of course our long term goal is to get him home but until then we are fighting everyday.
I am so thankful for the NICU nurses and doctors. They show up everyday with helping hands and a plan. They not only care for my baby but they care for me too. God has shown me through this journey that faith is a must. He has shown me that I can trust him and although my son is still in the NICU I know he is covering my child. For any parents going through this journey keep fighting. There will be days where the monitors drive you crazy, you get NICU-itis but your little blessing is worth the wait and worth the fight!"
