NICU Awareness - Twins

"No one prepares you to have your baby in the NICU , let alone TWO at the same time!

My twins Santiago & Raul were born at 29 weeks. Weighing 2lb 14oz & 2lb 10oz, 14in long.

After giving birth I only saw them for a split second, after that I didn’t get to see them until 10 hours later in the NICU. It was so overwhelming and scary to see my boys hooked up to so many wires. I didn’t know how to feel, but all I knew was that they were in the best of hands.

Raul was our smallest one for a long time, but he got to come home first after being able to be off oxygen. He got to come home after 78 days in the NICU. It was bittersweet, I was so happy one of my boys got to come home, yet I had to leave one to be with the other. My heart was so full yet so empty.

After Raul being home for about 2 weeks, Santiago got to come home finally after 91 days in the NICU.
