“Prior to having Soleil (pictured here) I lost her sister at 19 weeks due to undiagnosed IC a year prior. When I became pregnant with Soleil my pregnancy was challenging which ultimately left me to have an emergency cerclage placed at 22 weeks due to funneling which kept her in until 25 weeks. Three days into the 25 week my water broke two days before Valentine’s Day. I was rushed to the hospital, given magnesium and steroids for her lungs and was hoping to remain hospitalized and pregnant. Soleil’s heart rate continued to rise into the high 200s and was showing signs of distress. The decision was made to deliver very an emergency c-section on Valentine’s Day. Soleil began her 100 day stay in the NICU that night at 1lb 13oz . She went through multiple blood transfusions, eye exams, and a swallow study-which all came back clear. The day before her due date we got to bring her home-it’s a moment we will never forget. Soleil is now 18 months, meeting all milestones, loves cooking, and exploring.

She is truly a miracle and the light we needed- which is why we named her sun. We continue to be amazed by her and feel honored to witness her strength. She is a continuous reminder to her dad and I that all things are possible.” NICU Mama Elyse
