Having a child in the NICU can happen to any mother, anywhere, regardless of her race, socioeconomic status or background. However, there are significant racial and ethnic disparities in rates of preterm birth, low birth weight and infant mortality for babies born in the US. Project NICU annually supports the March of Dimes and their efforts in research and health inequity programming across the country.

To date Project NICU has donated over $16,500 from our annual March for Babies Walk team and direct grants.

In looking for a way to elevate our impact specifically for our African-American families beyond our own programming, we noticed several local organizations making an impact right here in Cleveland focusing day in and day out on improving equity and the health and well-being of these families.

In celebration of hitting 2,000 members on our Instagram and Facebook platforms, and in recognition of the wonderful work that many local organizations are doing in the maternal health space, specifically dealing with racial and ethnic disparities and improving the outcomes for African-American mothers and children, we are donating a total of $2,000 to Ohio-based nonprofits.
